Umpire Registration Guide

There are four types of umpires at the tournament.

  • Super Division Umpire:
    • Super Division Umpires are required to have a minimum Level III / USA or FIH rating or the equivalent in their own countries. They are not allowed to participate as players or coaches of any team in the tournament. Final selection of Super Division Umpires will be made by Tournament Director.

      • Umpires will be required to officiate a minimum of 2 matches on Friday to Sunday.
      • Umpires will receive a stipend of $45 per match officiated.
      • Umpires will receive a stipend of $10 per match for standby / reserve.
      • Umpires must attend Mandatory Umpires Meeting.
      • Super Division Umpires residing over 150 miles from the tournament site qualify for free accommodations in addition to receiving a stipend for matches officiated (2 umpires per room).

  • Designated Umpire:
    • A team-provided umpire which enables teams to be eligible for a refund of their umpiring deposit. All Competitive, Mixed Social, Under 19 and Under 16 teams should provide a designated umpire so they can receive the refund.

      • All Designated Umpires must be currently rated by USFHA.
      • All Designated Umpires must be available to officiate a minimum of 2 matches on Sat, Sun & Mon.
      • Umpires MUST attend the Mandatory Umpires Meeting.
      • Umpires will receive a stipend of $20 per adult match officiated.
      • Super Division Players / Coaches may not register as Designated Umpires and must instead only qualify as Volunteer Umpires.

  • Dedicated Umpire:
    • Dedicated Umpires are registered & rated USFHA umpires (or its equivalent overseas) that are not affiliated with any team as a player, coach, or as a designated umpire.
      •  
      • Umpires must commit to officiating up to 4 matches each day.
      • Umpires will receive a stipend of $25 per adult match officiated.
      • Dedicated Umpires residing over 150 miles from the tournament site qualify for free accommodations in addition to receiving a stipend for matches officiated (2 umpires per room).
      • Umpires MUST attend the Mandatory Umpires Meeting.

  • Volunteer Umpire:
    • Any qualified umpires, such as players, spectators or parents, that want to officiate during the tournament.

      • Umpires MUST attend the Mandatory Umpires Meeting.

    In order to qualify for a refund of a team's Umpiring Deposit, Designated Umpire must meet the following requirements:

    1. Attend the Mandatory Umpire Meeting (see below for location, date & time).
    2. Officiate a minimum of 2 matches per day on Saturday, Sunday & Monday.
    3. Must not be committed to more than 2 teams as a player or coach.
    4. Must officiate all matches assigned to him / her.
    5. Must be a Certified Umpire with the USFHA or FHF. Exceptions can be granted to qualified non-certified umpires at the discretion of the Tournament Director.
    6. Must Register Online as a Designated Umpire no later than April 21.

    Super Division Standby Umpires $10.00
    Designated Umpires (Team Provided) $20.00 per Umpire per Match
    Dedicated Qualified Umpires (Cal Cup Provided) $25.00 per Umpire per Match
    Under 14, U12, U10 & U8 when 2 Umpires Officiating Match $10.00 per Umpire per Match
    Under 14, Under 12, and Under 8 when 1 Senior Umpire Officiating Match $15.00 per Match

  6. Umpires Uniforms
  7. Super Division Umpires are required to wear black trousers or kilts for female umpires. Grass Umpires are required to wear black trousers, shorts or kilts for female umpires. Any color socks and shoes are OK. Umpires jerseys will be distributed at the respective Mandatory Umpire Meetings at the Best Western Posada Royale (Super Umpires) & Hyatt Westlake (Grass Divisions). Please bring an extra Red & Blue T-shirt in case of a jersey color clash with teams.


  8. Mandatory Umpires Meeting
  9. ALL umpires are required to attend the Umpire Meeting. Non-attendance waives your eligibility for refund of your team's Umpiring Deposit.

  10. Comped Hotel Accommodations (Available for Super and Dedicated Umpires Only)
  11. Limited free accommodations (available at the Tournament Director's discretion) are available to umpires who meet the following requirements:

    1. Is not playing for or coaching for any team.
    2. Is not a designated umpire by any team. (Registration still required).
    3. Resides more than 150 miles from the tournament site.
    4. Is a USFHA or FIH rated umpire.
    5. Grass Umpires must be willing to officiate at least 4 matches per day.
    6. Super Division Umpires must be willing to officiate at least 2 matches per day.
    7. Must attend the appropriate Mandatory Umpires Meeting at the Best Western Posada Royale (Super Umpires) or Hyatt Westlake (Grass Umpires).
    8. Must be willing to share a room with another umpire of the same gender.
